Scribes from Hua Siong College of Iloilo’s student publication, The Chain demonstrated their journalistic prowess at the 15th Gusting Journalism Seminar and Workshop on November 16, 2024, at the University of San Agustin. Competing against approximately 30 other school publications from Western Visayas, The Chain garnered awards at the workshop anchored to the theme: “𝘕𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘋𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘻𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘙𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘔𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘢 𝘪𝘯 𝘑𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘮.”

Gusting is an annual initiative spearheaded by the University of San Agustin to seek and hone journalistic potential in the region.

The ACE BAND made Hua Siong College of Iloilo proud by securing 3rd place in the Battle of the Bands – Open School Category held last November 9, 2024 at Festive Walk K-Town! This talented group, composed of learners from both the Junior High School and Senior High School Departments of the Ledesco Campus, also earned special recognition for having the best vocalists.

Hua Siong College of Iloilo has been recognized as the BEST PERFORMING SCHOOL in Western Visayas in the field of Mathematics by the Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad; ranked 14th among the schools in the country during the Heat Round.

In Western Visayas, only 2 schools successfully got into the top 50 institutions in the country that were recognized by TIMO as Top Performing Schools. HSCI was ranked 14 while the Philippine Science High School – Western Visayas campus was placed on rank 16.

TIMO is a globally recognized competition centered on Mathematics with the largest number of students in Asian countries.

This recognition is a testament to Hua Siong’s commitment to developing holistic and competitive learners through a well-crafted and world-class curriculum and intensified training by competent math teachers and coaches whose skills are of international caliber.
